Ms Porter learned about AAWDC GED training, and was able to walk across the street, and get assistance, versus traveling, as she has 6 young children. She was unemployed for years as she was raising 5 children. She was excited about the possibility of obtaining her GED. Ms Porter explained that prior to coming into the Meade Center, she had taken several classes at Anne Arundel Community College, working toward her Associates Degree, but was limited and would not be able to get her degree without her High School Diploma. Ms Porter received the initial Tools for Employment training (Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, etc.) She also registered to participate in the Meade Village GED training program. At the time, she was 3 months pregnant.

Though Ms Porter was pregnant while training, and had to be be off for 6 weeks, she has successfully completed GED Preparation training and received her High School Diploma.. She is also currently in driver education training. She has also obtained employment at Jiffy Lube, at the front counter, and recently interviewed for a position with Safeway (Arundel Mills). Toya Porter is now able to go back to Anne Arundel Community College to complete her Associates Degree.
